Cole Valley in under a minute
Thinking about Cole Valley? Here it is in under a minute.
In writing
Cole Valley is usually described this way: Stanyan and Sutro Forest to the west, Tank Hill to the south, Clayton to the east. Those lines are informal, and sources draw them differently.
The center is Carl and Cole, where the N Judah stops. SFMTA lists the line as 24 hours daily, with daytime trains every 10 minutes on weekdays and every 12 on weekends; late night and owl service run less often, and the N Bus covers the hours between subway and owl service. Uphill, Tank Hill is a city park with views across San Francisco, and its rebuilt Belgrave steps opened on Sept. 15, 2016.
Most of the Cole Valley Historic District is housing built between 1900 and 1915. It’s eligible for the California Register and isn’t a city landmark district. Next door at Parnassus Heights, UCSF’s 15-story Helen Diller Hospital is under construction: steel had reached level 6 as of Oct. 9, 2026, construction completion is expected by 2029, and the first patient is expected in 2030.
